Divorce

Divorce was not and never will be God’s perfect plan.  He did, however, allow it in His permissive will because of hardened hearts.  If you are reading this and think, “she doesn’t know my situation,” you are right.  I don’t.  I just know that God knows and He has the power to change your circumstances.  This is proven by a t rue story, “Rainbow’s End,” a person wrote for my book, “Storm Clouds and Rainbows, "by Tate Publishing Enterprises.

Her husband was having an affair with another woman, yet my friend kept praying, “Lord, all I have ever wanted is a godly husband, and I’m ready for whatever it takes to have one.  Amen.”  I wish you could see the smile on her face, the tenderness in her voice and the joy in her heart as she describes her husband many years down the road after the affair. Is there hope?  Yes, there is hope, because we serve a Mighty God who hears and answers our prayers.  You see, she played a major role in taking the grave clothes off her precious husband and setting him free to be the godly husband she had always dreamed of having.

How did she take the grave clothes off?  Sometimes it was through much prayer and calling out to her Living God.  Other times it was allowing God to show her her own self centeredness.  Did she have a choice in forgiving him?  I think not!  She was keenly aware of the times God had forgiven her and felt she had no choice to hold on to bitterness and an unforgiving spirit. This, in fact, would have been adding grave clothes to this already repentant and sorrowful man.  You see, he did not want to leave.  He did not want a divorce.  He needed her love and her forgiving spirit to enfold him every moment he was away from her.

“For if you forgive men (& women) for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.  BUT if you do not forgive men, (& women) then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.” (Matthew 6:14-15 NAS paraphrase mine)

My own, personal analogy of those verses is this:  God says, “If you will, I will.  If you don’t, I won’t.”  The last time I checked, it didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.  It only takes an obedient heart!
